What's happening at your internship? We would love to hear what kind of work you are doing!
As an intern for IPMD, I am working primarily on the front-end development of our TeachMeMedical app. My team and I are using Dart to create this app, and we meet weekly to discuss our progress. During these meetings, we also present the new interface features that we have implemented and seek feedback from each other and our supervisor. Alongside this, we often have other teams joining our meetings, such as the design team or backend developers with whom we collaborate.

Why did you apply for this internship?
I initially applied to this internship because I was interested in developing my skills from the classroom in a professional setting. The mission of IPMD also appealed to me because I am interested in the intersection of medicine and technology, and utilizing generative AI methods in creating an app that can benefit people really spoke to me.

What has been your favorite part of this internship?
My favorite part of being part of IPMD is having a lot of creative freedom in the projects that we take on. We are able to plan and design the interface of the app and determine how people will interact with it, which I find to be very fulfilling. Currently, an app like TeachMeMedical, which uses artificial intelligence to make lab test results understandable for patients, does not exist, so creating something this unique and impactful has also been one of my favorite parts.

What is something you have learned from your internship that you didn't expect?
Something unexpected that I have learned from my internship are the intersections between business, tech, and medicine. My supervisor is very well-versed in all three, so throughout this internship, I have learned about these different spheres from him. I am also surprised that my team can work so well together while all working remotely. We have been very organized and have had strong communication in these past weeks.
