Dear Undergraduate Student Workers and Their Faculty & Staff Supervisors,
Students are an important component of our BMC workforce. In addition to their contributions to the functioning of the College, campus work also gives students the opportunities to build skills and gain experience that will be beneficial in future careers and endeavors beyond ²ÝÁñ³ÉÈËÉçÇø.
There are some campus-wide special events specifically designed for students that not all students are able to enjoy given their campus work responsibilities. Moving forward, students working during these designated events will earn a 25% premium in addition to their usual wages. The three annual events for which the premium pay rate will be applicable are:
- May Day (all day)
- Fall Convocation & Picnic (4:00 – 8:00 pm)
- Pre-Winter Break Holiday Dinner (4:00 – 8:00 pm)
In addition, occasional, non-recurring special events on campus may also be eligible for premium pay as determined on a case-by-case basis.
For the upcoming May Day celebrations on April 30, the Payroll Department will automatically apply the premium for any hours worked that day by students. Starting with the fall 2022 semester, student time sheets will be revised to include a special event/premium pay category, and students who work during one of the designated events should mark their hours accordingly. As always, time sheets need to be reviewed and approved by a supervisor.
Similarly, we will be applying a premium rate for hourly staff who are required to work at events that are held for staff appreciation. More details about that will be shared with staff in the coming weeks.
